The Preservation Compact, a dynamic local non-profit organization, has just released its biannual report documenting the state of housing markets in Cook County, and providing data on affordability challenges and opportunities facing residential and commercial property owners.
With a focus on multi-unit leased housing, funded in part by the MacArthur Foundation’s “Window of Opportunities” Initiative, the 2017 report details the growing gap in the supply and demand for affordable rental housing in the region, and highlights successful market-based, government-supported and cost-based strategies in housing preservation. These strategies include the importance of savings via energy conservation programming and strategic efforts at real estate tax appeals.  READ REPORT.
