  • Your Information

  • Homstead Exemption Check

  • For exemption purposes, owner occupied is considered to be a residential property "occupied by its owner as his or her principal dwelling place" or "occupied by a person with ownership interest" such as a lessee who is responsible for the payment of the property taxes.
  • Your primary residence must be used as your principal place of residence for the year in question.
  • Based on your answers, you are NOT eligible for this exemption or any other Homestead Exemptions.

You can only receive the Homeowner Exemption if you own or have a lease or contract which makes you responsible for the real estate taxes of the residential property. It must also be used as your principal place of residence for the year in question.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: Erroneous exemptions are being investigated by the Assessor's Office. If you received homestead exemptions that you were not entitled to under Illinois law, the Assessor’s Office may aggressively pursue you to recoup the error plus interest and penalties.
  • Additional Exemption Questions

  • IMPORTANT NOTE: If you received government assistance to acquire your home (or through a non-profit housing program), you only have to occupy the property for five (5) continuous years to qualify for this exemption.
